WHO IS RETRO RACING?
Does anyone really know? Originating from a single cell organism in the form of a Datsun Roadster. Retro Racing soon evolved into what became primarily a rotary powered race team, at one time we raced and supported a stable of seven rotary powered Mazda race cars, including an RX2, RX3, multiple RX7s, and an IMSA series tube frame beast. We competed anywhere from Mission, British Columbia to Willows, California, Portland, Oregon and Kent, Washington to Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Following multiple seasons of competing with our three, E-Production RX7s, and various enduro series chassis, we began experimenting with our Subaru based Factory Five 818R, the goal being to develop it to compete in the annual 25 Hours of Thunderhill. After creating a level of grip and ground effects that constantly defeated the Subaru dry sump oiling system, we began dabbling with the Honda K series engines, and various “K“swap concepts.
Our first attempt resulted in our K-Miata named Judy, details of that build are on this site. Karona was then completed during the pandemic as a distraction, #19 evolved into one of the most reliable track cars we have built to date! Our next adventure was the creation of our KX7 which was based on the solid and proven foundation of one of our E-Production chassis.
Currently we continue to compete with two of our E-Production RX7s along with our two K-Miatas and our KX7. Over the winter of 2022, we completed a convertible street K-Miata for a customer, not only extremely reliable, but a complete blast to drive. Meanwhile, our 818R is currently in “K-Care” with our team specialist (Paulo of AES Auto in Burnaby BC), being refit for it’s very own K swap.
Still developing and maintaining the old rotary technology, tricking out our RX7 chassis and forging ahead with our K swap creations…that’s Retro Racing!
